Over 200 young people from Stockport received The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award at the biggest ever presentation evening at Stockport Town Hall last week.
A total of 246 Awards – 15 Gold Awards, 32 Silver Awards and 199 Bronze Awards – were presented.
To gain a Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, young people need to reach the required standard in four sections: volunteering (activities helping others), skill (such as playing a musical instrument), physical recreation (such as dancing or football), and a multi-day expedition. At Gold level people take part in a five day residential project.
Pictured are three of the Gold Award winners: Ruth Franklin is second left, Hannah Johnstone is second right, and Christian Ogden is far right; also pictured, left to right, are Alan Pashley from Stockport Council; Councillor Shan Alexander, Executive Member for Lifelong Learning and Achievement; and the Mayor of Stockport, Councillor Chris Murphy.
Councillor Shan Alexander, Stockport Council’s Executive Councillor for Lifelong Learning and Achievement, said:
“It is a fantastic achievement for so many of Stockport’s young people to gain The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award this year. I would like to congratulate the young people on their huge success. I encourage young people who are interested in participating in the Award to contact the Council.”
