The Vernon Building Society Jubilee Fund have received applications from over 100 good causes, looking for a slice of the £10,000 being donated to 20 local charity and community groups in 2013.
Applications were invited from causes in the Stockport area who could demonstrate that their funding will have a lasting benefit on their community.
Following the application deadline of 30th June 103 submissions have been received from a variety of causes across the borough. The Jubilee Fund panel have now begun the difficult task of shortlisting 20 which will then feature in the Stockport Express at which point members of the public will vote for the group that they would like to receive funding.
Mike Hanson, Chief Executive of the Vernon said:
“The Jubilee Fund has again highlighted the amount of good work that is going on in Stockport. Many deserving causes have applied so shortlisting will again be difficult this year. However, we’re really pleased to be able to offer 20 local groups support and hope that the public will get behind the causes which they think most deserve funding. ”
The voting process will begin on 14th August 2013 with the Stockport Express printing tokens that can be used by the public to vote for their favourite group. These tokens can either be dropped into any Vernon Building Society branch or sent directly to the charity or community group that they are looking to benefit. Groups will be informed of the funding that they will receive in October.
Staff from the local Society have been busy fundraising for the Jubilee Fund since the start of the year in a variety of different ways including selling a unique Stockport themed calendar, holding branch raffles, selling homemade items and organising sponsored events including an open water swim, a sponsored walk around Middlewood Way and a charity concert with live music from local band White Noise Box, a member of whom works at one of the Vernon’s branches.
