Hundreds of runners crossed the finish line at last Sunday’s hugely successful Big Stockport 10km and 1km Family Fun Run, sponsored by Orbit who themselves entered a strong team and held in Stockport town centre.

Several serious runners and many recreational runners recorded personal bests with the help of race chip technology however, for the majority of runners it was all about taking part, enjoying the challenge and raising money for charity.
And the winners are …
First across the line in the men’s race was Jake Littlehales who finished in a time of 33 minutes 19 seconds, the ladies title was taken by Linden Hiscock who finished in a time of 43 minutes 7 seconds. The men’s over 50’s race was won by Andy Lidstone in a time of 41 minutes 44 seconds and Hilary West on a time of 49 minutes 23 seconds took the ladies title in the over 50’s race. The winners of the team title were Marple Junior Park Run 1 with their 5 person team completing with a combined time of 3 hours 37 minutes 3 seconds.
Event organisers Life Leisure, who run sports and leisure facilities across Stockport, were delighted with the turn out.
Neil Bardsley, Sport Development Manager said:
“This is the fourth annual Big Run and it just gets bigger and better every year. I would like to congratulate everyone who took part for making it such a special day. We must also thank our sponsors Orbit Developments for their fantastic support; Orbit Developments not only sponsored the event but got together two teams of employees and friends to take part, encouraging even more people in Stockport to take part. Well done to everyone who took part on the day and made the event so much fun.”
Tony Jones, Managing Director of Orbit Developments, said:
“It’s great to see strong public support for events like this which raise money for charity, bring people into the town centre and promote a fun activity for all the family. Many congratulations to everyone who took part and especially to Team Orbit who put their running shoes on and did their bit for Beechwood Cancer Care.”
Neil added,
“We would also like to thank the many volunteers who gave up their Sunday morning to make the event a resounding success. Stockport has a great history of volunteering and without such wonderful people we would be unable to host Stockport’s Big Event Series, we can’t wait for next year’s Big Stockport Run.”
