Football fans will be seeing red – or blue – after a visit to a Bramhall optician which has begun stocking glasses branded by Manchester’s two rival teams.
Bramhall optician Ahmad Sheikholeslami has set his sights on football fans who want to keep their eye on the ball while showing their loyalty to their favourite club.
His Optique Opticians is one of the first opticians in the country to stock designer Manchester United and Manchester City glasses.
This is the first time supporters have been able to buy designer prescription glasses and sunglasses from Premier League teams.
He said: “I expect the children’s frames to be really popular. Children don’t always like wearing glasses but if they have their team’s logo on them they could suddenly become the coolest kid in the playground.”
The glasses come in a variety of styles and are branded with club colours and logos.
Adult frames cost from £100 a pair and children’s frames cost between £30 and £40.
And Ahmad hopes they will help put him in the premier league of independent opticians.
He said: “I think they will appeal to all fans and not just those who want to stand out from the crowd.
“The logos and the colours are very subtle and the frames are good quality. They are stylish rather than loud.
“In the past, we have had United and City fans asking for frames in red or sky blue. Now they can have official glasses from their team.”
The glasses are part of a range from Hull-based start-up Fan Frames, which has also struck deals to supply frames featuring teams including Liverpool, Everton, Chelsea, Arsenal and Newcastle.
