A Stockport Express team will be setting the fundraising pace at the Manchester 10k in May.
All money raised by the quartet – including Express editor Paul Harrison, Vernon Building Society’s head of Sales & Marketing Ian Keeling, restaurant owner Chris Syddall and his student daughter Rachael, 19 – will go to their ‘Pitch In’ appeal for the Seashell Trust.
Readers raced to join the team after Paul made
a plea in the Stockport Express & Stockport
Times for runners. Paul, 44, who collected more
than £500 for St Ann’s Hospice at last year’s
event, said:
“I am delighted to be joined by Ian, Chris and
Rachael. I hope, between us, we can raise more
than £1,000 for a great cause.”
The ‘Pitch In’ appeal stands at £25,000, halfway
to their target of £50,000 for a sports pitch for
Seashell Trust’s profoundly disabled
youngsters. The pitch would also be used by
community sports teams and clubs.
Chris, 49, who opened Beluga in Bramhall 13
years ago, is also in training for April’s London
Marathon:
“I saw the story in the paper and wanted to help
raise some money. I have done loads of
half-marathons and wanted to run the London
Marathon as I am 50 next year. Bizarrely, London
will be a warm-up for Manchester.”
Ian, 43, who lives in Bramhall and trains at the
Bramhall parkrun, said: “I only started
running last year. I ran the Woodford 10k in just
over 46 minutes so hope to beat that”.

Wendy said:
“We are delighted to have the Stockport Express Team running for us in the 10k. Last year we had over 50 runners who collectively raised £7,500 but we are confident that we can beat that this year and are hoping for £10k from the 10k.”
