Last week MAN Diesel & Turbo’s (MDT-UK) prestigious PrimeServ training Academy in Hazel Grove presented two simultaneous courses for two long-standing customers. In each case their engines have delivered many years of service.
One group was from Mantos Blancos, Chile, where twelve different engines built in the 1980s and 1990s are in service providing electrical power. These engines have been running for many years and the requirement now is to get them back to their original reliability and efficiency. This training forms part of the current large investment by the company. Due to the language barrier, a Spanish interpreter was employed; she has spent several years in Chile and is now resident in Macclesfield.
The other trainees were the latest group from the Royal Fleet Auxiliary. The RFA has many different types of MAN engines in use and this particular course was one of six planned during 2014.
This week the PrimeServ Academy is currently presenting two more courses for two other long-standing customers from the 1970s through to today. These are representatives from Manx Utilities (formerly the Manx Electrical Authority) and from the EDF Energy (formerly British Energy) site in Ayrshire.
MDT-UK’s two Technical Instructors Andrew Fenn (extreme left on the photograph) and Roger Scanlon (extreme right) are well versed with all the engines covered as both were employed by the Company at the time the engines were actually built.
