Businesses in the North West are potentially missing out on billions of pounds worth of sales because they do not have smartphone-enabled websites, if the results of a new survey are anything to go by.
According to a poll of 100 firms by Deloitte, just 15 per cent have websites designed to be viewed on smartphones, despite the fact that 53 per cent of the North West population own such a handset.
More than 80 per cent of UK consumers are expected to possess a smartphone by 2016 and £35bn of sales will be influenced by the devices.
Iain White, head of media at Deloitte in the North West, said the misconception that smartphone-friendly sites only benefit consumer-facing companies needs to be addressed.
He added, “Business-to-business organisations should also be encouraged to take advantage of the smartphone movement in order to attract potential customers.
“As the level of smartphone ownership increases so does the list of potential benefits for businesses. The implementation of a smartphone-enabled website is a relatively simple step that businesses of all sizes can take to help compete in a world of advancing technology.”
