JRS – 80% furlough scheme extended to end of March 2021
The Chancellor has announced that CJRS will be extended until the end of March??? 2021 for all parts of the UK. For claim periods running to 31??? January 2021, the UK Government will pay 80% of employees’ usual wages for hours not worked, up to a cap of £2,500 per month. The UK Government will review the policy in January to decide whether economic circumstances are improving enough to ask employers to contribute more. It was also confirmed that the Job Retention Bonus will no longer be paid in Fe???bruary 2021, as CJRS will be available at that time. An alternative retention incentive will be put in place at the appropriate time.
Chancellor Rishi Sunak says the policy will be reviewed in January “to decide whether economic circumstances are improving enough to ask employers to contribute more”. He says this means the incentive of the Job Retention bonus falls away. The full guidance for claims from November onwards, including more information on how to calculate a claim, will be published on GOV???.UK on Tuesday, and we’ll send you another update to confirm this. Claims can be made from 11??? November 2020.
Self-Employment Income Support Scheme increased
Mr Sunak also told the Commons the Government will increase the support for millions more workers through the Self-Employment Income Support Scheme. The third grant covering November to January will now be calculated at 80% of average trading profits, up to a maximum of £7,500, he said.
Chancellor approves grants for businesses closed by lockdown

- For properties with a rateable value of £15k or under, grants to be £1,334 per month, or £667 per two weeks;
- For properties with a rateable value of between £15k-£51k grants to be £2,000 per month, or £1,000 per two weeks;
- For properties with a rateable value of £51k or over grants to be £3,000 per month, or £1,500 per two weeks.

Covid reduces number of permanent jobs
City AM reports on official data from KPMG and REC showing a reduction in permanent staff appointments in October. The pandemic is largely responsible for this fall with the retail and hospitality sectors hit especially hard. The IT and computing sectors saw the sharpest rise during October however. KPMG vice chair James Stewart said: ‘With a reluctance to recruit permanent staff and a big increase in people available for work, the impending lockdown puts the UK jobs market in a precarious position.’

PROPERTY:
No evictions until January 11th except in extreme circumstances
The government has formally announced a pause in evictions in England until January 11 at the earliest. The only exceptions to this will be what the government calls “the most egregious cases”including where tenants have demonstrated anti-social behaviour or are the perpetrator of domestic abuse in social housing, and the landlord rightly would like to re-let their property to another tenant. Large scale arrears accumulated before the Coronavirus will also be an appropriate reason for an eviction to go ahead. Courts will remain open throughout the lockdown with the COVID-safe rules and procedures introduced in September. These include the strict prioritisation of cases, such as those involving anti-social behaviour and other crimes.

Property market buoyant despite Lockdown 2
Before the lockdown announcement was made, the number of transactions completed was returning to pre-Covid levels. That is according to Nicky Stevenson, managing director of Fine & Country UK, who says that during September this year, HMRC has estimated that 98,010 transactions completed. She adds that newly agreed sales since July have been between 42% and 62% higher than the same time last year. In October, newly agreed sales were 53% higher than last year – a slight drop from the 62% peak reported by Zoopla in August.
“With the average sale taking nine weeks from offer to exchange, September transaction figures will reflect those delayed by lockdown and only a small proportion will represent the surge in newly agreed sales,” says Stevenson.
