HEADLINES
Up to three households will be allowed to stay together and form a “Christmas bubble” from 23 to 27 December. Prime Minister Boris Johnson told people to use “personal judgement” on whether to visit elderly relatives. A scientific adviser to the government said the relaxation of rules amounted to “throwing fuel on the Covid fire”.
The measures will see travel restrictions across the four nations, and between tiers and levels, lifted to allow people to visit families in other parts of the UK.
Anyone travelling to or from Northern Ireland may travel on the 22 and 28 December, but otherwise travel to and form bubbles should be done between the 23 and 27.
People will not be able to get together with others from more than two other households, and once a bubble is formed, it must not be changed or be extended further. The guidance says a bubble of three households would be able to stay overnight at each other’s home but would not be able to visit hospitality, theatres or retail settings.

LOCAL / REGIONAL NEWS & UPDATES:
GM Mayor and Stockport Council Leader warn of Greenbelt loss without GMSF
Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham and Leader of Stockport Council, Cllr Elise Wilson, have warned of the increased risks to greenbelt in Stockport should the borough vote to withdraw from the Greater Manchester Spatial Framework (GMSF). In an open to letter to Stockport residents, published on Twitter, the two Labour politicians restated the case for the GMSF, the future of which is in jeopardy as negotiations with Conservative and independent councillors over reallocation of greenbelt land for housing continue. Concessions on proposals for 500 new homes appear to have already been made to help secure support for the plan that sets out areas for housing and commercial development until 2038, however there is continued opposition over planned developments in Bredbury, Woodley, Offerton and Heald Green.
More than £1 million has been awarded to Greater Manchester to help prevent domestic abuse from happening through work with perpetrators.
Existing programmes of support will be expanded as part of the funding into Stockport, Manchester, Salford and Wigan. Greater Manchester’s Deputy Mayor has also announced a £80,000 investment, alongside matching funding from the four local authority areas to help prevent domestic abuse across the city-region.

PROPERTY:
Will the 2020 housing market boom continue?
As property investors, it is very important that we monitor house price trends when assessing new deals and during existing long-term projects, especially if we need new or additional finance. Nothing is certain in property investment, but an upward trend in house prices can build additional equity and increase profits. But will this current boom last? There has been a significant spike in UK house prices since the first lockdown eased and this increase continued in October, 0.3% up on September 2020. According to the largest mortgage lender in the UK, the Halifax, the average price of a property in the UK in October 2020 was £250,457. This represents a 7.5% increase over the October 2019 figures, the largest jump in house prices since the end of 2016.
Agency predicts strong 2021 lettings sector but wants help for renters
Some 90 per cent of branches from franchise giant Belvoir believe house rents will rise or at least stay static in 2021, with few anticipating rent falls.
With regard to flats, 82 per cent forecast rent increases.
Predictions regarding the likelihood of rising or decreasing rents vary from region to region, and even for offices within a specific region, but the agency says that the market is likely to continues its current robust cycle. The average length of tenancies remains high nationwide, says the agency, with 41 per cent of tenants opting to remain in their home for 19 to 24 months, and almost a quarter renting for over two years: the company expects this trend to go on into 2021.
