Who are Stockports Sporting Heroes ? ….Get your nominations in now!
It’s time to honour and recognise our local sporting heroes in Stockport. This year the Sport Stockport Sports Awards, look set to be the biggest sporting social event on the calendar and they are now open for nominations.
Working in partnership with Life Leisure, which runs sports and leisure facilities across Stockport, the Sport Stockport awards honour the town’s top sporting personalities, clubs and volunteers.
John Hargreaves, Sport Stockport Chairman commented, ‘This year’s event promises to be an unbelievable celebration of sport in Stockport. We have so many individuals and clubs to be proud of in the borough and look forward to recognising their achievements on the night.’ He continued, ‘We are also extremely grateful to the local media, particularly the Stockport Express who have agreed to be a major media partner for the awards. Their contribution is invaluable in ensuring everyone in Stockport can contribute to the awards’.
With eight categories in total, winners will be selected by a highly esteemed independent judging panel, with representatives from Sport Stockport (the Sports Council), Life Leisure and representatives from the local media.
The categories are:
- The ‘Fred Perry’ Sports Achiever of the Year
- Young Achiever of the Year
- Disabled Sports Achiever of the Year
- Coach of the Year
- Club of the Year
- The ‘Sir Stanley Matthews’ Award – Unsung Hero
- Volunteer of the Year
- Changing Lifestyle Recognition Award
The awards evening will be held on Friday 26th September at Stockport Sports Village’s conference facility in Woodley.
Finalists in all categories shall be invited to the awards evening with winners being announced on the night.
Winners from the event will then go on to represent Stockport at the Greater Manchester Sports Awards which will be held in November. With plenty of national athletes in contention the night promises to be a glittering event with many famous sporting personalities from across Greater Manchester.
Nominations can be completed electronically or hand written. The nomination should cover achievements from the last 12 months (September 13 – August 14.)
