NK Theatre Arts wins at Manchester Musical Awards

Hannah Gorst from NK Theatre Arts has been named Best Choreographer at this year’s Manchester Musical Awards.

Hannah won the award presented in Prestwich for her work on the NK Theatre Arts’ production of Fame at the Forum Theatre in Romiley.

The Manchester Musical Awards celebrates the successes of musical societies and production companies from throughout the region over the last 12 months.

This year 17 performances were judged from throughout Greater Manchester.

Hannah said: “I had an insane cast to work with and some incredible dancers took part in this show, the hardest thing for me was to ensure that I challenged them all in the choreography that featured in the show and they certainly met those challenges head on.

“So although I am delighted to win, it’s not just a win for me but for all of the people that took part in the show and made it such an enjoyable and professional experience for everyone that saw Fame.”

As well as winning Best Choreographer, there were also nominations for NK Theatre Arts in the Best Actress Category with Emma Ramsden nominated for her portrayal of Mary Magdalene in Jesus Christ Superstar, Best Supporting Actor John Dean for playing Joe Vegas in Fame, Best Supporting Actress Louise Shufflebotham as Miss Sherman in Fame and Best Ensemble Piece for What’s The Buzz from Jesus Christ Superstar.

Company Manager Darren Stannage said: “It’s brilliant to be once again acknowledged for excelling in our performances.

“For us as a community organisation which oversees the development of so many young people and helping them to excel in something they love, its great recognition.

“We are all extremely proud of Hannah, who was formally a member of our youth theatre, to see her grow not only as a performer but also as a choreographer passing on her skills to others is a joy.

“To win best choreographer at such a young age for her really underlines her abilities and I know she is looking forward to her next challenge.”

NK Theatre Arts will kick off the 2016/17 productions with Spamalot in September.
