NK Theatre Arts latest performance of Jesus Christ Superstar showed how many shining superstars make up the Stockport based community theatre company.
Running over 4 nights last week, each performance was packed full of emotion, energy and a staggering amount of talent.
The original rock musical, created by Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber, hit Broadway in 1971 and has stunned audiences worldwide ever since. It has now stunned Stockport!
NK Theatre delivered a modern day and contemporary version which told the story of the last 7 days in the life of Jesus Christ but in a world we know today. Riot police, politicians, a beanie-hat wearing Judas and a leather jacket clad Herod!
The production was directed by Kerry Day who founded the Northern Kids Theatre Company in 1986. Kerry oversaw its transition to its present format, NK Theatre Arts, located at the Forum Theatre in Romiley.
Marketing Stockport and members from Together, Clarke Nicklin, Stockport Council and Midshire, were treated to a spell-binding performance with punchy vocals that complimented the live band with excellent acoustics and spectacular lighting.
Marketing Stockport’s Richard Higginson said: “I was simply speechless at the end of the show. The lead roles by Dominic Stannage (Jesus) and Emma Jane Ramsden (Mary) were of West End quality. The emotion and belief in each song drew many of the audience to tears.”
NK Theatre have various productions throughout the year and are holding auditions for thier production of Monty Pythons Spamalot. Oh yes they are!
Well done NK Theatre and all the company.
