Stockport Council has announced today (Wednesday 15th October) that its £45 million Bridgefield development in Stockport town centre has been renamed “Redrock Stockport”.
Redrock is a 40,000 sq ft leisure scheme – which is part of the Council’s Investing in Stockport programme – and is situated on the site of the existing car park at Bridgefield Street. It recently secured independent operator, The Light Cinema Limited, which is set to open a 10 screen multiplex as part of the new complex.
The Redrock name comes from the fact that the site sits opposite red stone – a unique geographical feature in the area.
Cllr Patrick McAuley, Executive Member for Economic Development and Regeneration at Stockport Council, said:
“We felt the new name for the scheme had to strike a balance between creating a vibrant, urban brand while connecting with Stockport’s heritage. Redrock was chosen from a number of potential names for the project.
“Following expert advice and testing the market, Redrock is a name that is generating the kind of buzz the project is worthy of. The Redrock brand will act as a catalyst for the ongoing regeneration of Stockport and will help to boost visitors to the town centre.”

Redrock will see construction of a new multi storey car park linking to the Debenhams and Merseyway car parks, creating a total of 1200 spaces. Up to eight ground floor units will be let to food and beverage businesses and new public squares will be created with further improvements to the public realm on Princes Street, Woodman Street and Deanery Way, which will link the scheme to Merseyway and the wider town centre.
