Stockport Council is launching a new enhanced computer system for the library service.
As Stockport Council’s Libraries move to the new computer system there will be a period of transition from 27th March to 22nd April when access to the services will be limited.
Councillor Mark Weldon, Stockport Council’s Executive Member for Supporting Communities, said: “The new system, which will be launched towards the end of April, will provide many benefits to library customers, including the ability to join online. The new look library catalogue makes it easy to search for books and other items, and managing your library account is simpler too. Customers will receive automatic emails or texts when a requested item is available.”
To allow the launch of the new system:
- Customers will not be able to renew items that are on loan via the libraries telephone line or online. Customers will be able to return items and re-issue them at any Stockport Council run library
- A valid library ticket will be required to borrow items from any library in Stockport
- The library catalogue will not be available. Customers and staff will not be able to search to see if stock is available
- There will be limited access to online library services via the library website
- To access public PCs customers will need a valid Library ticket and their 4-digit PIN. Staff will not be able to access this information
Council Library employees will do their best to keep disruption to a minimum during the transition.
