Capital&Centric, the developer bringing forward the restoration of Stockport’s historic Weir Mill, has revealed new computer-generated images of plans for Weaver’s Square, the new public space that will sit at the heart of the new community surrounding the 18th Century mill.
The new neighbourhood will feature 10 new bars, restaurants and cafés spilling outside and bringing the social spaces to life. It also aims to become the go-to venue for live music, street food pop-ups, parties and al fresco eats under the arches of Stockport’s iconic viaduct.
Weaver’s Square will feature four characterful outdoor spaces totalling 65,000 sq ft, including a riverside terrace and plant-packed courtyards.

John Moffat, joint managing director at Capital&Centric, said:
“Weir Mill isn’t your bog-standard development. Whether it’s live music under the iconic viaduct arches, grabbing food with mates or stumbling across the latest pop-up, it’s the kind of neighbourhood that feels buzzing, alive and full of character. With the first food and drink operators set to be announced soon, it’s about to get really exciting.”
Cllr Micheala Meikle, Stockport Council cabinet member for economy, skills and regeneration, said:
“Our UK-leading town centre regeneration is about more than building new homes, it’s about creating vibrant neighbourhoods and breathing new life into Stockport’s heritage, giving our historic buildings a future.
“While the Grade-II listed former mill is being carefully restored for residents, the new public square will create opportunities for independent businesses to thrive and for people from across the borough to come and enjoy our buzzing town centre.
“It’s incredibly exciting to see how our riverside will soon be opened up into an inviting outdoor space where communities can come together over great food, live music, and creative events from day to night.”
Several food and drink operators are already lined up to occupy units within Weaver’s Square, and the developers are continuing to look for further independent retailers and businesses to take up the remaining spaces. Interested businesses should contact Capital&Centric for further information.
