Stockport Council has released new images that offer a first look inside Stockroom ahead of the town centre’s new cultural space opening on Saturday 24th May.
The former Merseyway retail units have been dramatically transformed into a modern hub for creativity, connection and community that will soon host a packed programme of events, activities and cultural experiences, as well as feature a café and new town centre library.

A packed opening day of creative fun for all ages has been scheduled across the space. Events include:
- Green Fingers (10am–2pm) – Help bring our new planters to life with the National Trust and Merseyway Workshop.
- Quick Draw (11am–2pm) – Test your sketching skills on Adlington Walk.
- Disco hat making – Make a disco hat, create your own Stockroom story, explore digital art, or leave your mark on our collaborative mural.
- Add your photo to our Chosen Family Album Exhibition (10am – 4pm): Bring in your pictures and images to include in Chosen Family Album (pictured below) and see yourself inside Stockroom.
- Discover the Archives – Explore Stockport’s past, contribute to our time capsule, or hear from photographer Heidi Alexander.
- Born to Be Wild Child (from 10:30am) – Family dance party sessions under the parachute!
- Evening Launch with Mr Scruff & MC Kwasi (6–8pm) – A special Stockroom Studios set from Stockport’s own! Tickets first come, first served from 4pm.

Cllr Mark Roberts, Leader of Stockport Council, said:
“Stockroom marks an exciting new chapter for Stockport. This space is a bold investment in the future of our town centre – one that puts culture, learning and community right at the heart of our regeneration plans.
“It’s a place where people of all ages can connect, discover new ideas and enjoy creative experiences together. I’m looking forward to seeing Stockroom come alive this weekend.”
Cllr Dan Oliver, Cabinet Member Communities, Culture and Public Protection, said:
“Stockroom is all about creating opportunities – to explore, to learn, and to celebrate what makes Stockport special. It’s modern, inclusive, and full of energy – and it reflects the talent and creativity already thriving in our communities.
“The opening is just the beginning – and I can’t wait to see how local people make this space their own.”
