Stockport Council has commissioned a national charity to provide a new Home Support Service for people with mental health issues.
Richmond Fellowship successfully tendered for the Stockport Mental Health Home Support Service which will offer a preventive community-based support service in the home for people experiencing social crises and mental health issues.
The service will operate from April 2013 initially on a three year contract but with the possibility of an extension for a further two years.
The new service will take over from a Crisis and Home Support Service (CAHSS) currently provided by Stockport Mind.
Councillor Daniel Hawthorne, Executive Member, Adult Care Services said: “I welcome Richmond Fellowship into the area. They are one of the biggest voluntary sector providers of mental health care and support in the country.
“Stockport Mind managed the CAHSS effectively for five years and the tendering process was legally required. It was in no way a reflection of the quality of the existing service. We would like thank Stockport Mind for the work undertaken in establishing what was an innovative service and which has helped large numbers of people cope and recover from the experience of mental distress,” Cllr Hawthorne added.
