A Stockport family will benefit from a new home as a result of the Association of Greater Manchester Authorities (AGMA) ‘Empty to Plenty’ scheme.
The house in Larkhill Road, Stockport had been empty for over seven years before it was purchased and fully refurbished using funding made available by ‘Empty to Plenty’ to make it a home for a family currently on the waiting list for a property in Stockport.
Stockport Council and Stockport Homes have been working in partnership and have purchased and repaired 15 properties across the borough. Funding for a further seven properties has also been secured.
Mark Hudson, Director of Technical and Commercial Services at Stockport Homes Limited, said:
“We are delighted to have secured funding to bring much needed empty properties back into use. Many of the properties we have acquired are potential blights on the local community and have little prospect of coming back into use. We have worked closely with Stockport Council to identify and secure properties and are delighted to add our in-house building surveying and repair services for the benefit of our communities.”
Councillor Sue Derbyshire, Leader of Stockport Council and Chair of the Greater Manchester Planning and Housing Commission, said:
“The waiting list for a home in Stockport has over 6,700 names on it. One way to address this issue is by bringing the 1,000 long term empty properties in Stockport back to life. The ‘Empty to Plenty’ scheme has already created homes for 24 families in Stockport, and is well on its way to creating many more. I’d encourage any empty property owner to find out more about this scheme, and help us turn more empty properties into homes for Stockport residents.”
