Stockport Council run Chadkirk Chapel is a wonderfully restored 18th century building, set in the heart of the Chadkirk Country Estate. As part of Chadkirk’s Festival and Well Dressing event held at the end of July, the new East Window was unveiled.
Commissioned by ‘The Friends of Chadkirk’, this beautifully designed stained glass window, based on the design of an Anglo-Saxon preaching cross, blends itself to its surroundings, allowing light in to enhance the features of the Chapel whilst framing the woodland outside.
The new East Window was
unveiled by Mary Baumanis,
a member of the Friends of
Chadkirk. Mrs Baumanis, who
was born in Chadkirk Farm in
1928, was also one of the last
babies to be baptised in the
Chapel.
Councillor Iain Roberts,
Stockport Council’s Executive
Member for Economic
Development and
Regeneration, said:
“I would encourage residents to
come and see the new stained
glass window whilst enjoying
the peace and tranquillity of the
Chapel’s surroundings.
“Visitors can learn all about the history of the Chapel and the legends that link it to the 7th century missionary St Chad. Walk through the woodlands, enjoy the Victorian walled garden and take in the beauty of the wildflower meadow for a great day out.”
Chadkirk Chapel is open on weekend and bank holiday afternoons. Admission is free.
