Stockport Council has collaborated with a number of the borough’s businesses launch a new, high quality and accessible climate change training offer for local organisations.
The Carbon Literacy standard training course has been developed in partnership with environmentally-conscious Stockport businesses, tech reseller musicMagpie and schoolwear manufacturer One + All, as well as Manchester Metropolitan University and Litmus.
The training covers what climate change is, how it will impact us, and what we can do about it.
The flexible course is tailored towards SMEs who want to not only learn about climate change but also make an actionable and effective sustainability plan for their business. By the end of the curriculum, participants will have drafted a sustainability action plan for their business.
Training will also see you certified as Carbon Literate: a great way to communicate to your customers and clients that you’re serious about sustainability.

The course involves a days worth of learning: split across a series of self-led videos, activities, and a 3-hour group workshop. A fully-funded pilot scheme will run in Autumn 2023, after which the course will be charged. For the pilot, one person from a business can participate.
To find out more information about the training and register your interest to participate in the pilot, and in future cohorts on the course, contact Liz Atherton at Stockport Council’s Climate Action Now team.
