There are several new elements at February’s Foodie Friday which takes place in Stockport’s wonderful Market Hall from 6pm-9pm on 28th February.
Regular attractions at the free, fun and family-friendly event include a craft ale bar, cheese and wine slates, cakes and a barbecue. For the first time, young traders from The Teenage Market in Stockport are also taking part, along with two new traders and entertainment from singing wool seller Gaynor Wilson.
Gaynor, who runs John’s Wool Stall with her father, is performing in the market for the first time. She has been singing professionally for five years, and her band ‘Pretty Electric’ perform their own songs with acoustic guitars, double bass and a violin. Joining the band is Ben Taylor, a vocalist from NK Theatre arts and Two’s Company, an acoustic duo. Comedy this month is from Rob Gilroy who performs on the comedy circuit as Jerry Bucham.
New traders this month are Jay Kosh and Kirsty Robinson. Pizza chef Jay runs The Pizza Maker, a Cheshire-based mobile Pizzeria. Jay has a flair and passion for Italian cuisine and has been cooking professionally for over 10 years at award-winning restaurants such as the 39 Steps in Styal and Whitworth Art Gallery Cafe. He visited January’s Foodie Friday and said: “The live music was amazing. People were able to sit and chat, while eating some amazing food and drinking some fantastic local beers. It’s a great Friday night for the whole family and all at very reasonable prices. I am really looking forward to being part of this month’s event.”
Kirsty Robinson serves quintessentially British food and a range of teas. She is bringing veggie soup, corned beef hash with a rich onion gravy and her ‘Geordie Bangers’ sausage stew. She heard about Foodie Friday on the internet and from friends and is looking forward to taking part: “These events are really exciting and a great platform to showcase great food. Pop along and say hello,” Kirsty said.
Councillor Iain Roberts, Executive Member for Regeneration and Economic Development, said: “Foodie Friday is growing in success and bringing new traders and people to the Market Place. Each month there’s a unique mix of street food traders alongside live local entertainment, bringing a real buzz to the area. We encourage everyone who works in the town centre and those who enjoy gourmet street food and live music, to support their local market by joining us. We are delighted to see how many people are coming to Foodie Fridays and supporting the evening economy in the town centre.”
Foodie Friday was launched by the Council in May 2013 as part of Love Your Local Markets. The event takes place at Stockport Market, SK1 1ES, on the last Friday of each month between 6pm-9pm.
