Stockport Council is encouraging residents to use the festive period to consider becoming a foster carer.
The Council’s Fostering Service is actively looking for more people to come forward and consider becoming a foster carer.
Local foster carer Glenys Dawber from Offerton who has been fostering sibling babies to troubled teenagers for more than 20 years, decorates her tree every year with baubles she has bought for every one of her foster children.
Pictured is foster carer Glenys Dawber by her Christmas tree with baubles for each of the children she has fostered over the last 20 years.
Glenys, said:
“Every year we go out and buy two baubles, one for the tree and one for the foster child to keep in their memory box as a reminder of their time in our care. Decorating the tree brings back so many memories of the children who I will never forget and know that I have made a valuable contribution to the children when they have needed it.”
Councillor Wendy Meikle, Stockport Council’s Executive Member for Children and Young People, said:
“I would encourage people to use the festive period to consider becoming foster carer in 2015. It is a very rewarding role and foster carers make a huge difference to children and young people’s lives while gaining a huge amount of satisfaction from the role.”
The Council run monthly open evenings to explain more about the fostering role and how to become a foster carer. The next open evening is Tuesday 6th January starting at 6.00pm at the Town Hall.
