Microsoft warn of support phone scam

Microsoft partner and Marketing Stockport member Amshire Solutions have issued a warning of a phone scam, particularly aimed at the home user.

Amshire have been alerted that people at home are currently receiving calls from organisations claiming to be from Microsoft or a well-known security firm and offering “free security checks”.

More than a fifth of those who received such a call are tricked into following instructions that could compromise their security.  Microsoft always advise that if someone claiming to be from Windows or Microsoft Tech Support calls do not purchase any software or services or divulge any information whatsoever.  Users should always ask whether there is a fee or subscription associated with the ‘service’, but in any event, it is always safer to hang up.
