Merseyway has relaunched its Giving Tree fundraiser to back an urgent appeal as Stockport welcomes over 30 Ukrainian families fleeing the ongoing conflict in their homeland.
In collaboration with the Stockport Ukrainian Club, Stockport shoppers will be able to donate gift vouchers from local businesses to help provide Ukrainian refugees with the necessities they need as they settle into life in the town.
Businesses in the borough are also being urged to contact the centre or call in to make any contributions or support the campaign in any way they can.
Located in the undercover mall outside Specsavers, visitors will be able to select a blue or yellow gift tag from a giant, white tree. Each tag will provide the name of a store where gift vouchers are available for purchase. The Giving Tree will be open until Friday 6th May 2022, and all participants can drop their gift voucher at the secure post box located in the same location, or the Merseyway management suite.
Centre Manager, Victoria Nichol said:
“Our Giving Tree has provided thousands of gifts to local people in previous years, and we’re confident our shoppers will be just as supportive with this campaign, helping us welcome Ukrainian families joining our local community and providing them with the essentials they need. All donations will be greatly welcomed and appreciated, and I’d like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your support”.
In the run-up to Christmas 2021, Merseyway shoppers helped disadvantaged children and young people in the local area receive over 3,000 Christmas presents thanks to Giving Tree donations worth over £50,000.
