Merseyway Shopping Centre, Redrock Stockport and The Light Cinema announce huge pink celebrations this July to celebrate the start of summer to mark release of the new Barbie movie.
Celebrating the opening of the much talked-about film in cinemas, the event will include an array of doll-themed activities and installations across the town, providing exciting photo opportunities for all the family to enjoy.
Taking place on Saturday 29th July from 11am, Merseyway and Redrock will be decorated with all things pink and fun inflatables, while visitors will be able to come along dressed as their favourite dolls whilst enjoying free workshops, crafts, family games and more.
At Merseyway, children will be able to make clothing for their favourite dolls, whilst enjoying hair extension and glitter face tattoo makeovers. A live DJ will be getting everyone in the party spirit, while families can follow a trail around the centre to be in with a chance of winning a bundle of the trail-featured dolls.
With photo opportunities on every corner, make sure to snap a photo with the pink Cadillac at The Light Cinema Stockport, while a pink jeep will also be located at Merseyway for toddlers and youngsters. Doll boxes will be located around the centre ready for visitors to show off their best poses, and a photobooth will also be in the undercover mall ready to provide visitors with family snaps.
Don’t forget to grab a bite to eat from the food huts at Merseyway and The Light Cinema at Redrock as both locations will be serving a variety of pink treats to mark the occasion, including candyfloss, doughnuts and more.
Kylie Manifold, event organiser at The Light Stockport is ready to kick off the celebrations:
“Barbie Fever has truly hit Stockport in a big way – you’ll struggle to walk down the street without seeing a poster for what is shaping up to be the film event of the year. We’ve decided to mark the occasion by bringing the KEN-ERGY to our fabulous cinema in the heart of Stockport – there’s going to be loads taking place here including a real life pink Cadillac and a life size Barbie box for you to pose with, special themed cocktails and a summer Barbie-cue serving up Instagrammable pink bun burgers and hotdogs to guys and dolls alike. We can’t wait to see everyone dressed up in their best pink outfits – even the team here at The Light will be getting involved!”
Victoria Nichol, Centre Manager at Merseyway said
“We’re thrilled to host our first ever doll event at Merseyway and Redrock. With lots of activities for families, we’re confident this is going to be a popular event in the centre and encourage everyone to come down in their best doll outfits for an exciting day in the town.”
Cllr Colin MacAlister, Cabinet Member for Economy and Regeneration at Stockport Council, said:
“This promises to be another fantastic event taking part in the heart of our town centre. I know there has been a great deal of work that has gone in to making this a reality, and I’m looking forward to seeing the Cadillac in place outside of the Light Cinema!”
The pink celebrations will also mark the official opening of Merseyway’s popular outdoor beach, Merseybay, which will be open for the duration of the school summer holidays. Providing seaside fun for families, the beach will feature buckets and spades and deckchairs, as well as food huts and fun fair rides until September 3rd 2023.
