At the beginning of September 2015, the BBC’s Antiques Roadshow visited Lyme Park as part of its 38th year of broadcasting.
Such was the quality and quantity of items brought to the park by local residents, the BBC actually made two programmes from the day’s filming.
The first show was broadcast last Christmas with the second one shown on BBC 1 on Sunday, 1 May 2016.
The second show featured an item currently in MAN Diesel & Turbo’s (MDT-UK) UK Headquarters in Hazel Grove related to the prominent Victorian engineer George Stephenson.
The company owns an original 1845 oil painting of George Stephenson by the renowned Victorian artist Henry William Pickersgill.
For many years the painting hung in the Boardroom at Ruston Diesels’ Vulcan Works in Newton-le-Willows. When Ruston Diesels became part of the MAN Group in 2000, the painting remained within the company.
Louise Durose, MDT-UK’s General Counsel, represented the company during the filming with resident art expert Philip Mould offering advice and information on behalf of the BBC.
Louise and Philip are pictured with the painting during a break in the filming.
