A referendum will take place on 21st March 2024 that will give Marple residents the opportunity to vote on whether the proposed Marple Neighbourhood Plan will be adopted and inform future planning decisions in the village.
Developed by the Marple Neighbourhood Forum, a group of volunteer residents, and informed by feedback from the community engagement, the plan sets out policies specific to the neighbourhood area to help guide development. If adopted, the guidance will be used by Stockport Council’s planning officers, alongside borough-wide plans, to inform whether future development in the area should be allowed to go ahead.
The Marple Neighbourhood Plan’s vision proposes continuing to protect and enhance the area’s varied character both in the built environment and in its green spaces, while also acknowledging the need to address challenges facing the community, including its ageing population, high demand for housing and traffic and sustainable transport links.
Documents detailing the plan can be found via the Stockport Council website here, and at local libraries in High Lane, Marple and Hazel Grove.
Residents within the neighbourhood area (outlined in red on the map below) that are eligible to vote will have received their poll cards and postal votes in the last seven days. The last day to register to vote in this referendum is midnight on Tuesday 5 March.
