Marketing Stockport’s article:
Stockport – the 2nd happiest place in the UK – fact!
Stockport has just been voted the ‘UK’s 2nd Happiest Place to Live’ following research undertaken by online property business, Rightmove. The Yorkshire spa town of Harrogate, often described as the Bath of the North, ranked 1st overall and, along with Stockport, is the only other town north of the Cotswolds to feature in the top 10.
But, contrary to the much debated North-South divide where we Northerners are still considered to be the gloomy, down-trodden, poorer relations, we can smile safe in the knowledge that we Stopfordians are among the happiest; indeed the report concluded that Northerners are overall happier where they live than Southerners and that 9 of the 10 towns identified and ranked ‘unhappiest’ are located within the confines of the M25.
So, not only has Stockport been identified as being one of the best of the UK towns and cities to locate a business, its residents are among the happiest too.
Following the official launch of Marketing Stockport last month, we have been visiting many more businesses located in Stockport and across many business sectors – manufacturing, retail, IT & Communications, customer service, professional and financial organisations, bio-technologies and leisure. Despite the decline in some industries and the challenges faced by many UK High Streets and town centres, we have seen first hand that Stockport still has an ambitious and thriving business community.
Last week’s Stockport Express highlighted five great reasons to take pride in our town. We are equally proud and, through Marketing Stockport, aim to endorse that message and promote the breadth of business and services available here on the doorstep.
Unlike Tom & Barbara, we can’t promise to make Stockport entirely self sufficient but we can help to make more people aware of who is here and of the opportunities to do more business in Stockport.
And all with a big smile on our faces of course.
