Manchester Airports Group (MAG) has begun a tender process for over £500 million worth of investment into its airfields across its three UK airports.
Five suppliers are being sought for a £548 million framework, which include construction and rehabilitation of concrete and asphalt airside infrastructure. Primarily at Manchester Airport, work will also include improvements to airfields at London Stansted and East Midlands airports.
A tender process has launched on five lots of work within the project, ranging in value from £51 million for the design of the work, and up to £187 million for delivering pavement quality concrete for taxiways, stands, aprons and runways at MAG’s three airports. Work is set to be delivered over the next five to eight years.
Tendering for improvements to MAG’s airfields comes following the start of construction last year on the final phase of Manchester Airport’s £1.3 billion Transformation Programme. The new Terminal Two at the northern gateway opened in 2021, and this latest phase of construction will see the delivery of a second Pier to increase the terminal’s capacity, alongside upgrades to the original terminal building for a new security hall and a new-look, extended departure lounge.
Contractors on the Transformation Programme, Mace, are expected to complete work in 2025, when Terminal Two will be used for around 80% of passengers travelling through Manchester Airport.
