German airline, Eurowings, has announced it will offer a direct connection from Manchester Airport to the German city of Stuttgart from Spring 2024.
The inaugural flight will be on 6th May 2024, with the service operating four days per week. The new route will make Stuttgart the eighth German city with a direct link to Manchester Airport, alongside Berlin, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Munich, Cologne, Dusseldorf and Freiburg. Overall, Manchester Airport boasts the most diverse route network of any UK airport outside London, with over 200 destinations served.
Chris Woodroofe, Managing Director of Manchester Airport said:
“We are thrilled to be adding another new destination to what is already the most extensive route network of any UK airport outside London, giving our passengers even more choice when planning their next trip.
“Our data shows that Stuttgart is one of the most in-demand destinations that is not already served, so it’s fantastic news that Eurowings will step in and meet that demand.”
Eurowings’ new route replaces Ryanair’s direct flights between Manchester Airport and Stuttgart which operated from 2015 to 2019, serving 78,000 passengers a year in its last 12 months. The new route will expand the opportunities for business travel between Manchester and Stuttgart, which is a centre for Germany’s automotive industry and headquarters for both Mercedes-Benz and Porsche.
The city also has strong links with the North-west, having been twinned with St Helens since 1948 – glass from the town played a key role in helping to rebuild Stuttgart after being heavily bombed during the Second World War.
