LifeLEISURE’s David Hopkins Foundation has been making a difference to sport in Stockport since it was founded in 2011 and is looking for more people in need of financial support.
Thousands of pounds have already been raised, enabling children and adults from any background to become more active and participate in their chosen sport or physical activity.

Jaxon Wroe, Manchester Magic Basketball Club & England National Team; Nathaniel Whiles, Elite International Martial Art and clubs such as Compstall Cricket Club and Stockport Table Tennis Academy have all benefited from the foundation.
The foundation is in the name of David Hopkins OBE, who was Chairman of LifeLEISURE (Stockport Sports Trust) until his passing in 2009, a hugely inspirational figure who was passionate about engaging and supporting more people into taking an interest in sport.
Mandy Waller from LifeLEISURE commented:
“We are really proud to be part of the David Hopkins Foundation and to be able to help and support our local Stockport community. We really get behind the fundraising and thank our staff and members for being so enthusiastic about the charity and helping people to reach their sporting goals.”
Fundraising activity by LifeLEISURE staff and members has included aerobathons, sponsored walks, cakes sales and much more, including the hugely popular tea dance held at LifeLEISURE in Hazel Grove every Wednesday, where people keep active dancing whilst raising much needed funds for the charity.
Nathaniel Whiles family were thrilled with the support Nat has had:
”A great big thank you for supporting Nat to go to the WKKC World Championships in Dublin where he won 2 gold, 1 silver and a bronze medal. Had it not been for the David Hopkins Foundation financial support he would not have even gone.”
Stockport Table Tennis Academy’s Rob Clarke said:
“The David Hopkins Foundation and LifeLEISURE’s generous support is helping to widen sports opportunities for juniors in Stockport. The investment being made in new table tennis tables will serve the community for years to come.”
Jaxon Wroe’s family also commented:
”The foundation’s contribution has helped massively to maintaining Jaxon being an elite junior sportsman. Without the donation who knows what the outcome would have been.”
The David Hopkins Foundation accepts applications by individuals that live in Stockport or registered charities or clubs that are based in the Stockport Borough for amounts up to £500 for individuals and £1,000 for clubs.
