Life Leisure’s Love Being Active Week has wrapped up its second year, highlighting how staying active can be about fun, community, and making a difference as well as fitness.
With an incredible 39 free activities offered throughout the week, an impressive 227 diverse participants embraced the opportunity to try something new, from high-energy group classes to relaxed wellbeing sessions, showing not only a remarkable turnout but also a true sense of community across Stockport. A charity walk, run, and cycle challenge also took Life Leisure colleagues on a tour of all eight hubs and raised over £300 for Stockport Mind in support of mental health awareness.
Love Being Active Week is all about inspiring people to enjoy movement in ways that suit them, whether that’s lifting weights, dancing, swimming, or simply getting outdoors. The event aims to break down barriers to exercise and encourage everyone to find activities they love.
Ross McGuigan, Active Communities Manager and founder of Love Being Active Week at Life Leisure, said:
“We’re thrilled to see how much Love Being Active Week has grown in just two years.
“Our goal has always been to make physical activity accessible and enjoyable for everyone, and seeing over 100 people take part in our free activities is truly amazing. The fact that we were also able to raise funds for Stockport Mind highlights the power of movement in bringing people together for a great cause.”
This year’s event also placed a strong emphasis on engaging younger members of the community, ensuring that children had fun and accessible ways to get active. Hannah Bowler, Active Communities Children & Young People Manager at Life Leisure, said:
“Encouraging children to be active from an early age is essential for their physical health, confidence, and overall wellbeing. Love Being Active Week isn’t just about ‘fitness’, it’s about inspiring the next generation to move, play, and enjoy exercise in a way that feels fun and welcoming. By encouraging children to be active, we’re helping them to build positive habits that will support their health and happiness for life.”
Following another fantastic year, Life Leisure looks forward to growing Love Being Active Week even further in 2026, bringing more opportunities for people across Stockport to get moving and feel great.
