Discount supermarket, Lidl, has launched an online consultation as it prepares plans to open a new store in Cheadle Heath.
The supermarket revealed earlier this year that it had ambitions to expand to 1,100 UK stores by 2025, with Stockport among the locations in the North-west it was targeting to broaden its reach, offering finders’ fees to members of the public who help connect the retailer with locations for new stores.
Plans for the new Lidl supermarket will see a nearly 2,000 sq m store built on the Cheadle Heath Works site, off Stockport Road. The site is currently occupied by long-term tenants, Deanprint, who have been at the premises for over 100 years, but revealed in October 2022 that they would move to a recently refurbished 22,000 sq ft unit at nearby Lawnhurst Trading Estate.
Lidl plan to demolish the existing buildings to construct a brand new store, totally 1,913 sq m gross internal area with a net sales area of 1,251 sq m. The new store will be supported by a total of 104 parking spaces, including dedicated accessible and electric vehicle charging spaces.
Speaking to Place North West, Lidl’s Robert Lawton said:
“We are delighted to announce plans to bring a new Lidl supermarket to serve Cheadle Heath.
“The new store will provide the community with greater access to high quality, affordable produce and we hope that as many people as possible are able to participate in this public consultation. We look forward to sharing our plans and look forward to receiving feedback from the local residents.”
The public consultation is live online here with further details of Lidl’s plans and a short survey for local residents to share their thoughts.
