Stockport Council is urging residents not to lose their right to vote.
Thousands of households across the borough have already ensured they are registered to vote. However, anyone who hasn’t already returned their electoral registration form has until Sunday 9th February to respond.
Residents must complete an electoral registration form even if there has been no change to their details since last year. If there are no changes, this can be done easily by phone, internet, text or post.
The form must be returned by post if people have moved house or if there is any change to who is living at the property. Forms may also be handed to one of the Council’s canvassers who are visiting households yet to register (please check canvasser’s ID before giving out details).
Remember, registering to vote doesn’t mean people have to, it just means that you can vote if you want to. It will also improve people’s credit rating as the register of electors is used by Credit Reference companies to check residence before they can receive a mortgage, open a bank account or start a mobile phone contract.
