Interior Design students at from Stockport College have been turning their hands to an intense design project by putting together ideas to create a fresh new look for Heaton Moor restaurant Damson.
The students, who are all currently studying the 1st year of their Foundation Degree in Interior Design with Sustainability, in partnership with the Carpentry and Joinery department, undertook the project as part of their course and spent time working with Damson owner Steve Pilling – pictured above with students.
Programme leader Juli Parr, and Head of Carpentry and Joinery Barry Goodwin both said it was a pleasure to have restaurateur Steve work closely with the students. This project has provided an opportunity to develop their portfolios and work experience with a live brief.
Barry Goodwin said:
“Working in tandem with students across different departments mixed with the opportunity to work with a high profile client is what makes the carpentry and joinery department unique.”
Students involved in the project include, Hilary Griiffin, Laura Kilgour, Emily Newton, Abigail Casewell, Safina Afzal, Megan Forster, Mina Alazzawi and Aneesa Anwar.
Juli Parr said: “”We were very impressed with the ideas our students came up with and this was a great chance for them to learn from an industry professional whilst working on a live project like this.”
The Interior Design course is supported by a team of experienced tutors with a wide range of industrial experience, and benefits from well -equipped, purposely designed studios, IT facilities and design resource areas within the department.
This course is also offered for part-time study.
