Following a comprehensive restoration programme at the former Peaches Nightclub site on Wellington Street, now known as ‘Heritage’, over 50 high quality affordable homes have been completed by “Johnnie” Johnson Housing Trust.
The programme is the culmination of close partnership working with Stockport Council and “Johnnie” Johnson Housing Trust.
The multi million pound scheme was supported by the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA), Heritage Lottery Fund and the Council, and is the final scheme under the ‘Hillgate Townscape Heritage Initiative’.
‘Heritage’ now offers 24 apartments for shared ownership purchase and another 27 homes for rent across three buildings, Joseph Leigh House, Marsland House and The Old School House.

Cllr Patrick McAuley, Executive Member for Economic Development and Regeneration at Stockport Council said,
“A cutting-edge housing offer is critical to our vision for Stockport as a hive of economic activity. We have a town centre with a rich heritage which we are seeking to utilise in increasingly dynamic and innovative ways. This exciting development has brought a derelict building of historical significance back into use while giving Stockport a high quality housing offer.
“There is a growing confidence in the Stockport economy which is why people want to live, shop and do business here. This fantastic housing project is a great opportunity for local people to move themselves close to where the action is.”
Paul Dolan, Chief Executive of “Johnnie Johnson Housing Trust said,
“We are delighted to have delivered high quality new affordable homes in the centre of Stockport in partnership with Stockport Council. This has been a challenging development to complete and demonstrates “Johnnie” Johnson Housing’s commitment to the continuing regeneration of the centre of Stockport along with meeting people’s aspirations for affordable home ownership”.
David Chilton, Greater Manchester Head of Area at the Homes & Communities Agency, said:
“This is an exceptional scheme in the heart of the town centre that will set the benchmark for the quality of future developments – a significant amount of work has gone into sympathetically transforming the building into a high quality, desirable place to live. It is a great demonstration of the valuable, targeted support that the HCA is able to provide to bring forward new homes.”
