Latest figures for June 2013 show that the number of unemployed claimants in Hazel Grove has fallen compared to the same month last year.
In June 2013, 1,242 the number of claimants is 63 lower than in June 2012 and 51 lower than in May 2013, according to the latest ONS figures.
Figures from across the UK are also encouraging where unemployment has fallen by 57,000 over the last three months, including a 20,000 drop in youth unemployment. There are 16,000 more people in work than last month and 336,000 new jobs have been created in the last year.
Sir Andrew Stunell MP for Hazel Grove has welcomed the fall in unemployment in Hazel Grove in the last month, with a rise in jobs for young people:
“There are now fewer under 25s out of work than three years ago. On top of that we have a record number of apprenticeships. The take-up by Stockport businesses of the ‘100 new apprentices in 100 day’ challenge has been first class so far.
“The further improvement in the unemployment figures in Hazel Grove is a very welcome sign. This drop, combined with the rise in the total number of people in employment, shows that our economy is beginning to recover and grow.
“This is clearly a positive step forward, but we have to remain focussed on creating jobs and growing our economy”.
Andrew continued:
“Jobs are the key building block in creating a stronger economy and fairer society that allows everyone to get on in life. That is why our unrelenting focus will be promoting job creation and encouraging businesses to take on apprentices.”
