Plans to build an apartment scheme of 32 one- and two-bedroom homes in Hazel Grove has been approved by Stockport Council.
Kirkland Developments proposed the development to repurpose the site of the former Woodman Inn pub on the A6 in Hazel Grove, which has been closed for over eight years. The former pub building on London Road will be demolished to make way for the five-storey apartment building.
Planning permission was originally sought in summer 2020, but plans were since amended following further discussion with planning officers. The number of apartments on the site was reduced by two from original designs to allow for increased floorspace, which had originally fallen below national guidance for this type of property in the original proposals. At least 20% of the new properties will be released as affordable homes.
The apartment scheme will also boast significant sustainability credentials, with rooftop photovoltaic solar panels and electric car charging facilities incorporated into designs. Bike storage provision will also be available for each dwelling, and, due their A6 location, apartments are also well connected to public transport services in Hazel Grove.
Overall plans were welcomed by the Council for repurposing a brownfield site in the town, as well as adding to affordable housing provision in Hazel Grove.
