Retiring and longstanding Hallidays partner John Wilson was given a fond farewell by family, friends, clients and fellow team members this month.
John’s passion for war memorabilia and services to Hallidays was rewarded as John was presented with a British Cavalry Officer’s battle sword circa 1845 reminiscent of those used in the Charge of the Light Brigade.
Aged a young 57, John first joined Hallidays as a trainee on a temporary basis in 1977 whilst doing a split degree at Nottingham, re-joined Hallidays in 1979 and was appointed Partner on 1st March 1985. He was also the first person at Hallidays to successfully complete the Institute of Tax exams in 1983.
During John’s time at Hallidays he has expanded his knowledge through dealing with many complex tax scenarios involving SMEs, trusts and individuals. He took responsibility for running the Bramhall office until Hallidays moved into one purpose built premises in Stockport in October 2008 where he continued to manage his own team.
Hallidays now has a 60 strong team with its own in-house Payroll Bureau, IT department, Financial Services and HR team. John is to remain as a Consultant with Hallidays where his considerable experience and skills can be called upon.
Nigel Bennett, Managing Partner at Hallidays
spoke on behalf of the team:
“We are extremely sad to see John retire after
37 years with Hallidays, he is a respected
colleague who will be really missed.
However, I am delighted he has chosen to
spend more time playing golf, watching rugby
and slowing down a little. John has always
been lively and full of energy.
“He is fun to have around both in the
boardroom and at the Hallidays’ events and
celebrations.
“John attended many office parties at the St. James’s Club in Manchester and made a valiant contribution in ensuring the same question was asked every year with some incredulity – “How have we managed to spend more on drink than on food – again!” It’s a good job there are no photos!
We wish John all the very best.”
