Bruce Bissell, Chair, Beacon Counselling said:
“‘Being Hallidays’ charity of the year is fantastic news! Beacon, like many other charities in the recent economic climate, is finding it harder to raise the income to provide its services. Support from Hallidays comes at a crucial time for Beacon, as we are in tough times and facing greater demand for our services than ever before. The support given will help ensure we can reach out into the communities of Stockport where we are needed most”

1 in 4 people in the UK experience some form of mental health problem in the course of a year.
Beacon Counselling provides services to help improve the lives of people in Stockport who may be dealing with depression, bereavement, anxiety, stress or relationship difficulties to name just a few. Counselling can help reduce people’s symptoms as well as increasing their confidence, self-esteem, and their ability to better cope in the future.
The foundation of Beacon’s service is its volunteers. They currently have 60 volunteer counsellors and only 8 permanent team members who enable Beacon to do the work they do. In 2013, over 900 adults and over 450 young people and children benefitted from their counselling sessions.
Although Beacon receives some funding and grants, their services are reliant on donations from clients, fundraising events, gift aid and other donations to keep it going. Each year is a challenge to make ends meet and this year is no exception as more people than ever before need support.
