Semiconductor company, Nexperia, has welcomed Greater Manchester Mayor, Andy Burnham to their site in Hazel Grove to discuss the importance of Technical Skills education.
With a 50 year legacy on the site, Nexperia is a global semiconductor company, headquartered in the Netherlands, whose components enable functionality of virtually every commercial electronic design in the world.
Mr Burnham met with Fredrik Öberg, UK Country Manager, Christian Jones, UK HR Director, Dave Fellows, UK Site Director and Deepak Pandey, R&D Director. He saw first hand the investment in innovation and the highly skilled workforce at Nexperia Manchester; 30% of whom have worked at the site for over a decade.
Mr Burnham established the Employer Integration Board in December 2023, of which Nexperia is a proud member. The Board looks to establish Technical Skills education pathways for young people across the Greater Manchester area. One of the aims of the Employer Integration Board is to increase the number of young people embarking on T- level qualifications. For the first time this year, Nexperia will host T- level placements.
Mayor of Greater Manchester, Andy Burnham, said:
“Giving young people in Greater Manchester a clear path to highly skilled jobs in the city-region is at the heart of our plans for the Greater Manchester Baccalaureate (MBacc). Nexperia have worked very closely with us on the Employer Integration Board and it was great to see first-hand the opportunities they are going to be offering to those taking T-Levels in Greater Manchester.”
Fredrik Öberg, UK Country Manager and Vice-President of Nexperia, said:
“We really appreciate the Mayor taking the time to visit our site and to learn more about our business and our history in Manchester. We take great pride in our innovation, the quality of our production and our continued investment in our skilled workforce.
“We have been on this site for 50 years and have over 1000 members of #TeamNexperia working in highly skilled jobs in the UK. It is important for our success, that employees do have the necessary skills. The promotion by the Mayor of Technical Skills education is welcomed by Nexperia and it is something that we will continue to support.”
Christian Jones, HR Director UK and member of the Greater Manchester Employer Integration Board, said:
“As a global business, it is important that there are many entry levels into employment at Nexperia. We currently offer work experience, apprenticeships, graduate opportunities and PhD partnerships. For the first time this year, we are very pleased to be able to offer T- Level placements.
“Technical skills are hugely important to our industry and to the wider advanced manufacturing sector. Therefore, the work of the Employer Integration Board in Greater Manchester, in promoting technical education is a key component in attracting and retaining talent across our region. Nexperia is very proud to be part of the Greater Manchester advanced manufacturing ecosystem, and we look forward to working with our T- Level placements.”
