There are just four days left for residents in the region to join in the Greater Manchester Congestion Conversation with the Mayor of Greater Manchester to help tackle the crippling issue of overcrowded roads.
As traffic congestion costs the region £1.3m every year, Greater Manchester’s Mayor has launched The Greater Manchester Congestion Conversation and wants businesses to join the debate.
Greater Manchester’s economy is growing, which means the region is attracting more jobs, more people and more traffic.
This has caused increased congestion that is estimated to cost the city-region’s economy £1.3bn annually through longer commutes, delayed deliveries and increased business costs.
Cllr Alex Ganotis, leader of Stockport Council and Greater Manchester’s lead for environmental issues and climate change, said:
“It’s very important for residents in Stockport to give their views on congestion across Greater Manchester, so we can better understand the current scenario and come up with ideas together on how to make things better.”
According to INRIX Manchester is the second most congested city in the UK and the 46th most congested in Europe.

The Greater Manchester Congestion Conversation
Improving Greater Manchester’s transport system and reducing congestion is one of Greater Manchester mayor Andy Burnham’s top priorities. He has started The Greater Manchester Congestion Conversation so we can build a better understanding of the issue, identify the problems and hear opinions from the business community.
“Since the launch of the Conversation we’ve already had an amazing response, but we want to ensure all Greater Manchester’s communities are heard – including the business sector. This is your chance to share your views with people who have real power to shape Greater Manchester’s transport future.”
Please take a few minutes to complete the survey here. Let Transport for Greater Manchester – TfGM – know what you think about congestion and how we can tackle it together.
TfGM are also encouraging businesses to share this through their Social Media channels and have created some posts to share:
