Greater Manchester companies thanked for PPE donations

Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA) and Mayor Andy Burnham have thanked the companies that have made PPE donations during the coronavirus crisis.

Greater Manchester’s PPE taskforce, set up following the Covid-19 outbreak to ensure supplies to frontline workers, received donations of gowns, makes, gloves and hand sanitiser from local companies. In some cases, businesses produced supplies themselves to make donations.

Donations to the taskforce have ensured NHS, social care and emergency services in Greater Manchester have been able to maintain a good supply of PPE in the city-region.

Mayor of Greater Manchester Andy Burnham said:

Time and time again as we responded to this pandemic we have seen the best of people and organisations across Greater Manchester.

“You so often hear about the spirit of Greater Manchester and the sense of community across the city-region and generous donations such as these go a long way to showcasing the fantastic support we have seen for our key workers.

“All the donations we have received have helped to keep our incredible frontline workers safe while they carry out their vital work and from everyone in Greater Manchester I would like to express a heartfelt thanks to these organisations and companies for their donations and support.”

E-commerce retailer, The Hut Group donated 25 tonnes of PPE during the crisis to Greater Manchester NHS, and saw the company receive a message of gratitude from Andy Burnham directly.

Manchester distillery and Hallidays client, Didsbury Gin switched to manufacturing 20,000 bottles of hand sanitiser for the social care system. Liam Manton, founder of Didsbury Gin, said:

We were aware at the time that our region’s social care providers, who look after some of the region’s most vulnerable people were short of vital PPE and hand sanitiser and that there was an urgent need. Our company is born and bred in Manchester, and we’re in the fortunate position that we can utilise our supply chains and to give back to the Mancunian community during these challenging times.”
