Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce (GMCC) has appointed Wayne Jones OBE as its new Chair, with immediate effect following a Board meeting at the end of March.
Not a new face to the Chamber, Wayne has previously served as a Past President, and as a Board member for nearly a decade. He brings to the role a depth of institutional knowledge and continuity, while also marking a new chapter for the Chamber.
Alongside his roles at GMCC, Wayne serves on the Liverpool-Manchester Railway Partnership Board, holds the title of Global Ambassador for Manchester, and is the Founder of his own consultancy business. He previously served as a Member of the Executive Board of Stockport-based Everllence (then known as MAN Energy Services) and has spent his career at the intersection of business, infrastructure and regional growth.
His appointment comes as Greater Manchester Chamber enters its first full financial year as a new organisation, and as Chair, responsibilities will extend beyond the boardroom to provide leadership, represent the Chamber’s members externally, and maintain the confidence of the business community across the city-region.
Wayne Jones OBE said:
“Greater Manchester has always been a place that punches above its weight, and the Chamber has a vital role to play in making sure businesses here have the support, the platform and the representation they deserve. I’m proud to take on this role at such an important time for the organisation, and I’m looking forward to getting to work.”
Emma Holt, President of the Chamber added:
“Wayne has been part of the foundation of this organisation for a significant period. He knows what we stand for, he knows what Greater Manchester needs, and he has the credibility and the drive to help us move forward with purpose. We’re delighted to welcome him into this role.”
Wayne Jones’ appointment follows the stepping down of Phil Cusack, who served as Chair for an extended period.
