NK Theatre Arts Dance Teams, Vibe & Inclination, have shone at the TeenStar Dance Competition in London.
Over 10, 000 contestants began the competition, which was whittled down to 22 finalists through Audition, Area Final, Regional Final and Grand Final held at the Beck Theatre in London.
Vibe finished 4th in their age category and Inclination were a whisker from winning their age category in finishing 2nd.
Hannah Thomas-Gorst, Choreographer, commented
“These 26 children and young adults have worked their socks off 3 times a week after forming the groups just 3 weeks before the first audition.
“Training and working on their routines, hitting each stage with so much power and passion in every performance, they have also represented NK Theatre Arts and the whole of Stockport to the highest degree. Not just supporting one another but also their fellow contestants throughout each round and being commended for how lovely and polite they are when dealing with backstage staff from all other venues.
“The emotional intelligence and maturity of these performers has been overwhelming, it has never been about the winning, simply the opportunity and the experience, being able to do what they love and what they are passionate about. It’s that passion that drives them to strive to improve and motivates them to give 100% all the time”.
To enable the dancers and backup team to travel to the venues particularly the final in London a number of fundraising events were organised by parents and in particular my thanks as Business Development Trustee go to 2 sponsors, The Spring Gardens Beer & Food Emporium, and one of our longest standing supporters Stockport based IT Company CDL who help these NKTA students achieve their dream.
One parent, Michelle Markham, shared her thoughts on the TeenStar experience:
“Wow, wow, wow. What an experience for both Libby and my family. I didn’t think I could be any prouder of Libby but watching her in this competition I could burst with pride. It makes me very emotional! When I see her up on stage doing shows she looks like she’s really enjoying herself but seeing her in Vibe with her friends it’s electrifying, the energy they all bounce off one another is electrifying and I whole heartedly look forward to the next one.
“For Libby she got to make new friends and have a new experience. She has grown in confidence and to believe in herself. For me I made new friends and got to watch my daughter living her dream, to dance.
“I would like to thank you for letting Libby be part of this wonderful group. She’s a very lucky girl.”
