Stockport law firm Gorvins is partnering with some of the biggest organisations in Stockport’s care sector to host a unique week of activity aimed at helping carers, dependents and anyone who needs advice on how to plan for the future.
The free event will take place over two days – 3rd and 5th March – at Gorvins town centre offices in Tiviot Dale, Stockport.
In attendance will be professionals from Home Instead Senior Care, Together Trust, Age UK Stockport, Stockport Advocacy, Signpost, The Alzheimer’s Society, Carer’s Call to Action, Stockport Council, Prest Financial, Flag and representatives from Greater Manchester fire service.

The week will focus on two key areas, Planning for Later Life and Parents and Carers.
Planning for Later Life, in partnership with Home Instead Senior Care, 10-4pm on Tuesday 3rd March
over afternoon tea and will cover topics including Wills, Lasting Power of Attorney, practical and social care in your community, advice on caring for people with Dementia and home safety options for the elderly from the fire brigade.
David Moore from Home Instead Senior Care said:
“People typically access care in a crisis. This is a great opportunity to plan for the future, with the necessary information to make informed choices.”
The Parents and Carers event, in partnership with the Together Trust – a Cheadle-based charity providing care, support and specialist education – will be held on Thursday 5th March 9.30-3pm and will cover advice on legal rights, plus residential care, fostering, family support, community services, education and advocacy in general.
Sue Whitehead, Head of Therapy at the Together Trust, said:
“It will be a unique opportunity for those involved in caring roles, or being cared for, to access advice across a range of areas.”
She said: “We welcome the chance to show how we work collaboratively with other organisations and will be offering insights into managing some of the fundamental aspects of care.”
Mary Edwards of Stockport Advocacy said:
“New laws give people personal budgets to manage care for themselves and this is an opportunity and a responsibility. How and on what should they spend the money? All this will be covered by experts during the Parents and Carers event.”
Christine Thornley, Partner in Gorvins Wills, Trusts and Probate team, said:
“It is unique to have the main caring organisations of Stockport under one roof. It will give visitors a rare overview of the depth and breadth of service provision and the opportunity to talk one to one about specific circumstances.”
