Greater Manchester Police (GMP) has named Chief Superintendent Lewis Hughes as the newest District Commander for Stockport.
Since first joining GMP in 2003, Ch Supt Lewis Hughes brings to his new role the knowledge and experience gained in the force’s Serious Crime Division managing complex operations including the murder investigation into Stuart Everett earlier this year.
Additionally, Ch Supt Lewis Hughes is dedicated to further strengthening Stockport’s Neighbourhood team, with a specific focus on anti-social behaviour. This aligns with Chief Constable Stephen Watson’s commitment to going ‘back-to-basics’ as it further emphasises officers proactively preventing and fighting crime.
Chief Superintendent Lewis Hughes said:
“I am excited to work alongside the excellent team at Stockport to ensure that we leave every situation knowing we have made a positive difference. It is vital we create a safe and secure environment for the public to go about their day with confidence.
“I firmly believe that focusing our efforts on reaching the greatest outcome for the public encourages officers to be the absolute best they can be for our community. I am working with partners to address concerns unique to our area and reach solutions which maintain the safety of those in Stockport.
“In policing we are often called during the most distressing times of people’s lives, and it is important we remember that everything we do comes back to a victim, who comes to us in their hour of need. Providing a caring response and supporting victims while we investigate crime is fundamental.
“I will strive to ensure that policing is fair and effective, with a strong commitment to officers being out and about, engaging with the public and showing they are there to make a positive impact on the community.”
