Residents across Stockport are being challenged to get online this October and try doing everyday things the digital way, as part of the national Get Online Week running Monday 13th to Sunday 19th October.
Councillor Iain Roberts, Deputy Leader of Stockport Council, said:
“The internet is a helpful tool for everyday life, often saving you time, hassle and even money, so we are keen to make sure that everyone can benefit.
The Council has just launched its re-designed website making it quicker and easier to access Council services. Whether you need to pay a bill, apply for a school place or report a faulty street light, you could be doing it all – and more – online.”
For residents who would like to get started online or develop their skills there are free online taster sessions available at Stockport libraries. From setting up an email account to searching for a job; finding a local club or filling in an online application, residents looking for help and advice can speak with library staff and find a session to suit them.
For those who need more one-on-one support, experienced volunteers also work in some libraries and can provide individual training sessions with residents who want even more assistance. These can also be arranged by speaking with staff at your local library.
Councillor Roberts added: “This online training is proving really popular and it’s great to see so many residents looking to make the most of what the internet has to offer. Even if you cannot attend one of the sessions, all Stockport libraries have computers with free internet access, so give it a go or bring along a friend to help you get started.”
