Get set, Go! at the BIG Stockport Run

The BIG Stockport Run is attracting runners of all abilities who are lacing up their trainers ready for the ‘off’ next Sunday 18th September.

The 10k race is open to anyone aged over 16 and will start and finish in St Petersgate, central Stockport.

Life Leisure, which runs 12 sports and leisure facilities across Stockport, established the BIG Stockport Run in 2012 as a legacy for the London Olympic Games.

Sponsored by Biffa and with prizes provided by sports brand New Balance, this year’s run looks set to be the biggest yet, but there’s still room for last minute sign ups.

For those looking for a smaller challenge, a 1km family fun run will also be taking place alongside the main race.

Entrants can run, walk or complete the course as a group with previous runs seeing competitors in fancy dress as part of their personal drives to raise money for their chosen charities.

In addition to the prizes from New Balance for Men’s, Women’s and Team categories, 10k entrants will receive a high-end technical race T-shirt and medal as well as various goodies in their finishing pack. The participants will also be able to accurately track their finish time through chip timing technology.

O’Neill Morgan Solicitors will be keeping the runners hydrated, providing bottled water at the end of the run, with water also available at the mid-way point.

Alongside the races, a ‘festival village’ with exhibitors, food and children’s entertainment promises to make the event a fun day out for all the family.

Sam Barton, Community Sports Officer at Life Leisure, the BIG Run organisers said: “This is the fifth BIG Stockport Run and we are anticipating a record turnout. This is an event for everyone, whether they are a serious runner or just coming along to have some fun.  It also helps local people raise a lot of money for their own favourite charities as well as being a key date in the diary for elite runners.”

Entry details: The entry cost is £15 (UKA Affiliated Athletes: £13); £18 (on the day entry); Team Entry (5 people) £50. Family Fun Run entry cost is £5 (Children aged 5 years old and under can take part free of charge, when accompanied by a paying adult).
