The Gander programme, launched in November 2015 to bring Business and Education together in Stockport, has made a successful start to 2016.
The programme aims to assist students from three local sixth form colleges, by providing support and insight into the local business community, using the experience and expertise that exists in and around Stockport.
Already this year, students have benefitted from an insight into the world of finance, with a presentation from Wilmslow based Mutual Financial Management. Course tutor at Aquinas College, Nina Peplow, commented “the students really found it informative and inspiring. It covered subject specific areas, as well as how to get into the financial services industry as a career.”
Last week a group of Performing Arts students undertook mock job interviews, which were to help equip them with some experience, whether they were looking for performing roles, or those in backstage or front of house roles. All that took part agreed that the experience had been both relevant and interesting, whilst recommending this type of activity to others.
Upcoming activities already supported are some work experience for a law students at Gorvins Solicitors and a range of industry insight presentations at Stockport College.
The Gander programme is supported by the Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce in Stockport, together with the local council and the Stockport Economic Alliance and would welcome any Stockport company or individual in business, from any sector, to register their support at www.gandercareers.com
